Gece - Global Grooves Turkish Roots: release info

Unsigned, 2002

Gece's first album captures the live spirit of this original band. Combining elements of traditional Turkish music with original songs, and traditional instruments such as darabuka, rek with guitars, harp and fiddle, the band has a richly textured and subtle sound.

Brunswick Turkish band Gece became well known in Melbourne, Australia for their live residencies at Barbukka, and the blend of traditional Turkish songs and original material they have developed is presented on this wonderful and varied CD. Gece's music is firmly based in Turkish traditional music, and adds flavours of western instrumentation, such as concert harp.
