Bulkaway Muruku (Yarning Together)

Bulkaway Muruku (Yarning Together) is the brainchild and passion project of Kuku Yalanji song woman Merindi Schrieber. Aimed at families, beginning from the first thousand days, Bulkaway Muruku uses song and craft to transmit precious local languages and storyies into the hearts and minds of the next generations.

This NAIDOC week, Bulkaway Muruku presented our children’s shows at the Brisbane Powerhouse Museum. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

In an underwater stage setting, the puppet story of Girrigurri the baby fish unfolded. Aunty Merindi’s storytelling had the audience laughing and singing along, and lovely funny interactions with the kids.
